Description

So what if there's nothing in the sky? That's how it is in the desert a bunch of the time! XP (It has nothing at all to do with my laziness...:iconhurrplz:)

I had to fix up Vibrava's and Flygon's eyes since my inking went a little wacky there (they have been restored to their general original appearance in this alteration) but other than that, everything is in its final inky form.

For this family, I have a little something to say about their biology:

It is quite well known that many (if not all) pokémon species are transgenic species (that is, species of one kind with genes of another). Flygon's evolutionary line is a curious example of among the most successful transgenic creatures.

Their growth quite literally takes on the stages of an antlion and its damselfly-like adult form ([link]), even if they are literally dragon "flies". The reason I can confidently conclude this is the Trapinch evolution stage. Trapinch's body and hunting mannerisms -making sand traps that resemble mini-quicksand funnels ([link])and waiting at the bottom to snatch whatever falls in ([link])- is a direct correlation with antlions, the "larval" stage of the damselfly-like insect. They resemble the antlion in their body structure and anatomic features, such as having poor eyes (and thus rely on vibrations, smell, and hearing). Some Trapinch evolution lines have more dragon genes than their more insect-like counterparts, and the more dragon phenotype is displayed here. Vibrava, the second stage, still retains some of the characteristics of its poor-sighted predecessor, but mostly possesses a heightened sense of vibrations. The wings are still developing and can only take Vibrava in the air for short amounts of time because they are thin and similar in structure to the antlion's flighted stage's wings. Vibrava's wings are constructed of the material that makes antlion wings and individual scales, and since it has both, it only has some capabilities and little strength. This flygon and vibrava have developed a magnifying, protective eye membrane to shield from sand and enhance vision from the air -quite the contrast from Trapinch's poor eyesight. Some flygons and vibravas with more of the antlion genes have insect segmented eyes, but such is only helpful for sight and much less prepared for violent sandy weather.
